A New Framework for 3D Modelling of Subterranean Fauna Habitats

Western Australia’s Pilbara and Yilgarn regions are recognised as global biodiversity hotspots for subterranean fauna, and yet subterranean habitats provide extreme challenges for fauna surveys and impact assessment.

Biologic Environmental Survey has worked intensively with industry partners Rio Tinto to produce a robust framework for three-dimensional (3D) subterranean fauna habitat modelling.

The framework combines specialist technical knowledge with advanced modelling capabilities in Leapfrog Geo to produce a rigorous 3D representation of the suitability, extent, and connectivity of subterranean fauna habitats.

Biologic’s Subterranean Fauna Technical Leader, Shae Callan, will be presenting “A new framework for 3D modelling of subterranean fauna habitats” at the Biodiversity Conference 2021 (Resilient Landscapes) 15-17 September 2021
